We love a 14-inch gaming laptop here at PC Gamer, and there’s a big reason why—we travel a lot. And if you’ve ever tried to use a 15 or 16-inch machine on an airplane tray table like I have, you’ll know that it’s downright uncomfortable.
Primarily, that’s down to its OLED display. We reviewed the RTX 5070 Ti-equipped version of the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14, and the screen is an absolute highlight. It’s a lovely panel, so much so that Razer uses it for the Blade 14—and that’s our favorite 14-inch gaming laptop right now.
The Blade 14 is very expensive, though, and this Asus is much more affordable, particularly with this discount. The 90 W RTX 5060 mobile graphics chip at its heart will need some DLSS and Frame Generation help to make the most of the laptop’s 1800p resolution, but I’ll take that caveat given the portability on offer.
And yes, it’s a little pricey for an RTX 5060 machine. That being said, the RAMpocalypse has forced most laptop prices into the stratosphere, and you’ll struggle to find a 14-inch OLED gaming lappy for cheaper. Personally, I’d take the tidy form factor and the fantastic display over a more powerful graphics chip for the same cash, although your mileage may vary.
Speaking of RAM, this model has 16 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 on board, and you won’t be able to upgrade it as it’s soldered to the board. It’s not a huge deal, as 16 GB of system memory is still plenty for most modern games, but it’s something to be aware of before you press the buy button.
The CPU is a grunty eight-core, 16-thread AMD model, and the SSD is a decent 1 TB Gen 4 unit. All in all, this is a great little machine for the money, and I don’t even mind that it comes in my least favorite laptop color, white. Or that the fans are a bit whine-y, for that matter.
The current gaming laptop market is prone to surging prices and very inadvisable “deals”, but this one’s stolen my heart. It’s the sort of lappy I’d be very tempted by right now, and I think you should give it some serious consideration, too.
